Using “Data Extract” Tool in Site Catalyst

“Data Extract” tool is very user friendly and easy to use. It allows users to create normalized tables, and they decide on metrics and filter as per their requirements.

The tool gives multiple delivery options:

1. Immediate report download
2. Scheduled reports based on the granularity for periodic deliveries
3. Email delivery of reports to multiple ids

When to use Data Extract tool?

Consider this – you want to show trended view of visits of all search engines in the month of Jan day-wise.

If you go to Traffic Sources >Search Engines in reports, it will allow you to see trended view of five search engines at a time. To get the view you want, you will end up taking day-wise sums of search engines, selecting five at a time. Imagine if search engines list is more than 100.

In such a situation “Data Extract” tool comes to rescue. Here’s how you can do it:

- Click on “Data Extract” tool.

- A new window will pop up where you can key in the data you required

Step 1: You need to Select No. of Search Engines and Apply a filter as shown below:

Alternatively, you can select specific search engines from the list as shown below:

Step 2: You need to select the date Range and Granularity as shown below:

Step 3: You need to select the metrics for your table:

Step 4: After entering all the data you will be taken to new window for Save or Send details options:

You have 2 options:
i) Save it as Bookmark – You can save it as bookmark so that you can check the data by just clicking the bookmark, you can also make the report as public.

ii) Email the Report – Add the email ID and report will be delivered immediately. You have one more option of Advance delivery where you can schedule it so that you receive the report on a Daily, Weekly or Monthly basis.

You are done!! You will be able to see complete search engines traffic for the month of January day wise.
